Abstract:

I spent most of the 7 months writing my Bachelor Thesis in front of the computer. I just found my Bachelor Thesis on my University’ s Homepage and wanted to give you the opportunity to download it for free. The thesis is on the topic of Adapted versus Original Screenplay. I raise questions like: “what promises to be a financially succesful and critically acclaimed film? A film based on an original screenplay or one based on an Adapted Screenplay?”
As a practical example, I revise the adaptation of the 7th and last Harry Potter Book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” by J.K. Rowling. I also address the decision of the writer and producers to split the 7th Harry Potter Book into two films.
“In this paper I survey the 250 most successful films of all times and find out that the majority of them are not based on an original screenplay, on the contrary: Over 50 per cent of those films are either based on an adapted screenplay or on previously created characters. Sequels, prequels, spin-offs and the like are a sign of Hollywood’s fear to produce films based on a story that is unknown. There are a lot of signs pointing towards the fact that most of the succesful films are based on elements of myths, sagas, fairy tales and archetypes. This seems to be one of the reasons why Fantasy films are so successful.”
I would like to thank my tutors, Dr. Peter Gottschalk and Dr. Ruth Halter.
I wish to give everyone interested in storytelling, writing screenplays and especially fantasy films an opportunity to read my thesis. I spent a lot of time looking through old books about myths, studying Freud and Campbell and Zacharia Sitchin. My interest in the topic of fantasy worlds, especially for film, has grown since I researched my thesis.

Sandra Zellweger is playing Anna – Maria Schmid in “All In – The Movie”
This year was started off with a bang – at least for me. We started shooting “All In – The Movie” on January 4th in Regensberg, Switzerland.
The film is a short, produced, directed and written by Oriana Zängerle, with contributing writer Catrina Klee adding vital inspirations to the script. The film features Sandra Zellweger as Anna – Maria Schmid, Lionel Podarski as Marco, Manuel Miglioretto as Stefan, Freigeist van Tazzy as Schiller, Silvio Wey as Antonio, and Manuela Glanzmann as Paula. The secretive Dora is played by Vreni Brun.
I was fortunate to have a very professional and creative team around me: Marco von Allmen sees to capture the perfect shot as our Director of Photography, Katharina Meier and Ferdinand Kirsch are very inventive and creative Production Designers, costumes were overseen by Scarlett Arnet, who was assisted by Gina Zängerle, the film was edited by Claudio Sipka, with original Score composed by Paddy Blätsch. Björn Härtel and Reto Daniel Ziegler are Production Managers. Meret Jehle is 1st Assistant Director.
Please feel free to post your questions in the comments and like the All In – The Movie FB page…more news are coming soon!
I am pleased to announce I am to direct the short film “All In” (@Miracle Works Films, 2014). Preproduction is well underway and shooting will start in january 2015. The script was written by myself, with some contribution from Catrina Klee. It is the story of three people of different social and financial background, age and sex who have one thing in common: they lose themselves in the seemingly glamorous world of poker. Will they be able to get rid of their addiction before they lose everything?
The temptations of addictive gambling is shown in the short film “All In” (@Miracle Works Films, 2014)
It is a short film aiming to show the less glamorous side of gambling addiction. The genre is drama with some light and humorous passages. It will be shot in german. Running time will be about 25 minutes.

Dear readers, 2013 is a big year for me! I just completed my first position on a feature film set as a 1st Assistant Director! The film is a swiss production called “20 Regeln für Sylvie” (20 Rules for Sylvie) and the shoot has been great (challenging and crazy at times, of course, but great!). I had a great deal of responsibility, and saw how all the mechanisms on a big movie set work. However, I was never terrified. To me, the joy was the dominating feeling. It is the strongest confirmation in my professional life so far that I have chosen the right profession for myself! Thanks to that amazing team and our crazy crazy CRAZY director Giacun Caduff, who gave me this chance!
The second big thing that just happened is: Photo Botos published a photo of mine on their site! It is one of my favorites, I took it on a spot I love: on the Isola Del Giglio. On it you can see a rock, shaped like a tooth, and behind it the Isola Montechristo (famous from the movie “the count of Monte Christo”). The light was perfect, it was a magic moment. Take a look and read the full story here 🙂
I was in Rome recently and I am amazed at its richness and beauty every time I return. It is also a source of Inspiration – the old monuments, the culture, the stile di vita, caffè and food. When we were visiting, Pope Benedict XVI had already resigned and they were waiting for the Conclave to start. So when we wanted to visit the Sixtine Chapel, we found out it was closed because of the preparations for the Conclave. It was a pity, those frescos by Michelangelo really are extraordinary, I would have liked to see them again. Maybe I’ ll have better luck next time:-)
We were really fascinated by the Pantheon; it is over 2000 years old and exudes great strength and power. The hole in the cupola is also special: it is called the “Window to God”.

Today my friend Nessi had booked a photo shoot; she needed some pictures for her cv. That was only the beginning. After we had finished with the “duty” part, we moved on to the sponta- neous and fun part…and the weather was perfect for it. She enjoyed the Snow, which is visible on the photos below:
Thank you so much for your visits, comments, sharing and likes on Miracleworks this past year! It has been a great year with a lot going on. I truly appreciate all your input and support and hope you’ ll be back on this blog in 2013.
All the best, lots of success, good ideas, and a happy and creative 2013 to you all! I can’ t wait to see you back here in the new year, there will be some announcements!
As a symbol for the past year, in which I finished my Bachelor of Arts in Directing, I chose one of my favourite animals: the gabbiano. It looks so graceful as it lands on this rock…sometimes it would be really nice to be able to fly…
Cheers to all the positive, creative people out there! See you soon!
In late August, I was invited to a friend’ s wedding. It took place at a beautiful old mill, with a river flowing next to it, of course. The weather was perfect, and so was the party. There was spanish food and cuban music. Here are some pictures:

I finally visited Paris again…it was only my second time there. The beautiful river Seine and the little quartiers, like Montmartre and Quartier Latin. Then there are the majestic monuments, many of them with their own park, for example the Louvre with the Jardin des Tuileries…it was magnificent! Speaking of monuments: here is my HDR of the Notre Dame.
I decided to shoot it from a special angle, since the medieval archictecture comes out especially here. The Gothic construction style of that time is especially visible in the pillars outside.
What do you think of the picture? Have you ever been to Paris? Which is your favourite spot? Please comment below. If you liked the post, subscribe to my blog and/or click “Like”. Thanks!
A week ago we hiked from Fräckmündegg to the Top of mount Pilatus. The ascent was quite demanding, the steps were up to 30 cm high. On our lunch break we saw some blueberrries, which made a lovely dessert.
When we arrived at the Top, we also saw some chamois. It was the first time I ever saw one out in the Wild. I also shot this picture from the top. There were some paragliders starting from the left, their manoevering looked quite scary and dangerous to me. I felt a lot safer where I stood. What about you? Have you ever been in such a place?
Would you rather go down in a Cable Car or in a Paraglider? Please comment below!
This is a panorama of a place that is very special to me: It shows the place where I grew up. There are many places for the community, for example a soccer field, a basketball field, a Pool room, and rooms for meetings or parties. There is a big garden, where some inhabitants grow their own vegetables, flowers and herbs, and if you cross the street, you’ re at the lake. In summer, during the holidays, it is idyllic. You can stay out on the terrace, have a barbecue, and enjoy your homegrown vegetables on a homemade Pizza. I truly am blessed to have been brought up in this place!
The wedding season has started! This was a very tumultuous setting, the weather didn’ t really play along unfortunately. We were all freezing when I took this picture (most of all the bride and me, which made them laugh, and was therefore a good thing:-)).
But even when the weather isn’ t as nice as you’ d hoped, it’ s still good if there are some nice photos there afterwards to remember the extraordinary, exceptional and emotional ‘most beautiful day of your life’. Our wedding couple was not distracted by the weather, they had a blast. This was the first wedding I photographed, so I plan on improving some things, but I’ m quite happy with the result.

I’ ve declared my love for this place a few times now, and I can’ t wait to go back. There’ s such a feeling of bliss when you swim in the clean, turqoise water in the baia del Campese, or take the surfboard and go out to the farthest rock you see there, which is called the “faraglione”, or the “tooth” by us. You can also go on foot to that spot. From there you can see the Island of Monte Christo, and if the sight is clear, you even see Sardinia.
What is your favourite spot on earth? Please comment below!
As some of you might have noticed, I took quite a fancy to panorama shots and HDRs. This is a HDR photo of the Urnersee, shot from Beckenried. The Urnersee is one leg of the Lake Lucerne, near the Rütli, where the birthplace of Switzerland lies. You can purchase this and other photographs to enhance your home. To do so, check out my Whitewall page! What are your thoughts on this view? Have you ever visited the “Ur-Schweiz”?
In Beckenried, there is a great bakery for a stop after one of the beautiful panorama hikes.
Here are some shots of a photo shoot I did last week: enjoying all the colours of spring, and the feeling it gives you: joy, freedom, and so forth…enjoy!
Here are some “bubbly” shots:

On a winter’ s day, when the clouds were hanging over the city, we decided to go onto a mountain top to have the sun above and the clouds beneath us. The choice fell upon mount Rigi, and it was one of our most marvellous days this winter! There is nothing to relax you more than the mountain view and air! And some real snow:-)
This is one of the pictures I shot that you can buy. Take a look at the gallery here.
When I was in Ticino recently I enjoyed the sunny weather immensely and that’ s how I got the idea to express the great atmosphere with an experiment. I know this photo won’ t match everyone’ s taste, but I wanted to try something new and a bit out of the ordinary. May the seagulls flying in the glistening sun make you smile for a moment despite the icy temperatures we have on the northern face of the alps.
In the winter months the grey misty scenery can be a bit grinding, that’ s why I enjoyed a day in Ticino (the southern, italian-speaking region of Switzerland) so much. There was blue sky and the sun, and it was about 6 degrees warmer than on the northern side of the Alps. This Gabbiano was very happy to be fed some bread by a walker, and so was I because I got to make this picture! Hope you enjoy!
A few days ago I was out and about in Lucerne and took a few pictures of the beautiful scenery. The sun was just disappearing behind the hill when I took the picture. It was very chilly, but the view made up for the cold temperature. There were even people sitting outside having a coffee. Where do you spend an occasional free afternoon? Can you recommend a beautiful route for a sunday stroll? Please comment below!
Here is an article with pictures (the one at the top and the one at the bottom) taken by me. The article is about cooperatives, one of them is the one I grew up in. Enjoy the article! What do you think? Please comment below.

Dear visitors of this site, I wish all of you a good start in 2012! Until then, I wish you a successful, lucky, healthy, peaceful and inspired new year! Thanks for all your support! As always, you are very welcome to comment!
This was a beautiful weekend in Milano: altough the weather was not very friendly (just a few degrees above zero and a constant wind), the atmosphere with the christmas decorations, as can be seen below, was great.
And to add to that, there’ s the italian STILE DI VITA, which entails good food, coffee, great architecture and culture (for instance, the TEATRO LA SCALA is one of the most acclaimed in the whole world).
I think the old trams have much more charm than the new ones, and I loved seeing them in action still.
This is the wall and tower of the Castello Sforzesco. Below you see the fountain in front of it.
Finally, here is the famous Duomo of Milan by night (front).
And here’ s the back side of the Duomo. Unfortunately, there’ s a huge Ad poster on one side, I don’ t mean to advertise anything other than the beautiful architecture of the Dome. That’ s why I chose to cut the part with the Ad off. Look at those windows: they’ re breathtaking! What can you recommend in Milan? Do you like the architecture, food, culture or shopping best? Please comment below.
I have taken a fancy to Panorama shots of late and wanted to share this view over Zürich I shot on a beautiful November day with you. I was shooting for a project near Chur yesterday and captured this breathtaking view. More images and clips will be following soon, and more info about the project. Until then, enjoy this picture!
Gestern war ich für Dreharbeiten in der Region Chur unterwegs. Dabei musste ich diese Stimmung einfach festhalten. Weitere Infos und Clips zum Projekt folgen bald. Geniesst in der Zwischenzeit das Bild 🙂
Nature is so changeable. For Instance, you can watch a sunset at the same spot a million times, it won’ t look the same twice. I was fascinated by the ambiance that night in Giglio, so I captured it with a picture. Enjoy!
This moment was captured on early monday morning. We were driving through the canton Aargau to a construction site and I could hardly wait for the car to stop to take this picture 🙂

Valentina D’ Angelo is a karate teacher who gets fired from her job. Her investment consultant informs her that she is in debt: Since she owns an apartment for which she has to pay mortgage, she has to raise 2000 € in two weeks’ time. She gets used to talking dirty on the phone while doing her laundry, cooking etc. One day she is serving a client while runnig in the forest. She believes to be on her own when suddenly she is being attacked by some pervert. She panickes, but manages to fight him off. The women become friends instantly and make a pact to change the oldest profession forever…
This is the poster of the 2009 Film produced to honour and celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the cooperative I grew up in, the “Genossenschaft Rothus-Wies”. All the parts were played by inhabitants of the cooperative and I was touched by their devotion to the project. The plot could be summed up as a ficitonal crime story in front of a real background, since the cooperative also is the place of action.
Tecnical facts: Length: 78 Mins. Language: Swiss german. Subtitles: German, English. Format: DV, Aspect ratio: 4:3. The film was produced over a period of 20 Months and shown to an exclusive audience in March 2009.
Credits: written, directed, edited and co-produced by Oriana Zängerle, Camera: Mathias Grabichler, Lucy Hofmann, produced by Alfred Zängerle. Technical Supervisor: Felix Opahle. Starring: Jessica Zängerle, Sabine Richter, Anna Khatami, Ramin Khatami, Cordelia Fankhauser, Dan Vassall-Adams.
Here’ s a breathtaking moment I captivated with a camera. You can see the Island of Monte Cristo (famous from the Film “The Count Of Monte Cristo”) in the background. The photo was taken last fall on the beautiful Isola Del Giglio: One of the most inspiring places I know!

I started 2020 by preparing for a trip – around the world. I will be traveling to a variety of countries, which are all new to me. I am beyond excited – and a little bit unsure of what to expect. But I count myself very fortunate to have this opportunity and to learn much along the way.
